Katalin Körtvési

Katalin Körtvési She graduated from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Music Education and Choral Conducting in 1992. Between 1995 and 2010 she was Assistant Lecturer in Solfege, Music-Theory, Score-Reading and Choir-Conducting at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music Teacher Training Institute. She worked as the Solfege Teacher of the Hungarian Radio Children's Choir. She was also the music director in drama and musical performances as well as the conductor at Sure Chamber Theatre, Szkéné Theatre, Jókai Mór Theatre and Jászai Mari Theatre. Since 2010 she has been working as Artist Teacher at the Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute of Music of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. As a Music Teacher, Choir-Conductor and Kokas Educator she has held workshops in Australia, China, Ireland, Malaysia, Singapore, Scotland, South-Korea and the USA. She has also performed as coach and accompanist in several opera- and musical companies. As a graduate of Klára Kokas’ training programme, she is the leading expert in Hungary qualified for teaching the Kokas pedagogy at the university level. At the Kodály Institute she delivers an elective subject “Kokas Pedagogy”. Together with pianist Anikó Novák they offer “ZeneZen – Creative Piano Pedagogy” which is based on the principles of Kodály’s philosophy and Kodály’s disciple Klára Kokas’ pedagogy. This is a new approach in guiding the students towards musical discoveries through singing, movement, listening, imagination, full self-immersion, improvisation and instrument playing, while focusing on piano playing skills, the training of inner musical imagination and emotions expressed through free movement improvisations and other creative activities.
