ECHI - Toccami // International Call for Scores
Works for solo guitar // Works for solo saxophone

THE ECHI FESTIVAL WAS BORN WITHIN YOUTH CENTER "ONDA D’URTO" BY WHICH IT IS RUN IN COLLABORATION WITH THE VILLA SEVERI SOCIAL CENTER. OUR GOAL IS TO BRING THE EXCELLENCE OF CONTEMPORARY CLASSICAL MUSIC IN A WIDELY ACCESSIBLE CONTEXT, FAR FROM THE FORMALITY OF THEATERS.


Regolamento

REQUIREMENTS
Participation is open to composers who identify themselves as emerging of any age, ethnicity, gender, sex, and to music of any style and difficulty. All unpublished compositions are allowed: already performed, recorded, awarded or not.

INSTRUMENTATION
The competition is divided into two categories (it is allowed to submit entries for only one or both categories):

CAT. 1 - Compositions for solo classical guitar. The use of electronic tape (stereo) and amplification is allowed. The use of live electronics is not allowed.

CAT. 2 - Compositions for solo saxophone with a choice of soprano saxophone, alto sax., tenor sax and baritone sax. In addition, one or more instrument changes within the score itself are allowed, as long as the time required for the instrument change is taken into consideration. The use of electronic tape (stereo) and amplification is allowed. The use of live electronics is not allowed.

DURATION
5′ - 10′

AWARD
One composition from each category will be selected.
Each selected composer will be offered:
- performance of the selected composition during the fifth edition of the ECHI 2022 Festival (Fall 2022)
- housing for two nights in Arezzo to attend the concert (attendance is not mandatory, but highly recommended)
- reimbursement of travel expenses up to € 150
- professional audio recording of the performance (by our festival’s sound engineer)
- professional video recording of the performance
- inclusion of the composition in the repertoire of the soloists (Michele Bianchini - saxophone, Giovanni Martinelli - guitar) for future performances
- (optional but very welcome) presence as a member of the jury in the next edition of the call for scores 

In the event that new restrictions related to the Covid 19 health emergency arise and it proves necessary to adopt alternative or substitute arrangements for the performance and recording of the piece the selected composers will be promptly notified. 

Performance rights remain the property of the selected composers. The selected composers may freely use the audio-video material related to their compositions.

All composers not selected will have the opportunity to request by email a written review of their compositions by one of the jurors. 

APPLICATION DEADLINE
August 20th, 2022.

ENTRY FEE

There is no limit to the amount of compositions that can be submitted.

An entry fee of €10 for each composition must be paid via Paypal to the following email address centrovillaseveri@gmail.com

In the event that the call for scores is cancelled, all the entry fees will be refunded.

REGISTRATION
Entries must be anonymous (remove any identification sign from the score and filenames)
Send the following attachments and info by compiling the this google form:

- one or more perfectly readable scores realized with a notation software or handwritten in PDF format*.
- MP3s to one or more live recordings (if available) or MIDI mockups in MP3 format
- contact information (name, age, home address, phone number, website etc.)*
- a list containing the titles of the compositions, year of composition, duration and a brief synopsis of the pieces in PDF format*
- curriculum vitae in PDF format*
- receipt of payment of the application fee in PDF format*.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

JURY
We took the unorthodox decision to entrust the difficult task to be jurors to a group of young talented musicians and composers under the supervision of the renowned italian composer Andrea Portera (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrea_Portera):
Michele Bianchini - saxophonist, artistic director of ilSuono Contemporary Music Week
Giovanni Martinelli - guitarist
Edoardo Dadone - composer, guitarist
Sara Stevanovi? - composer
Riccardo Perugini - composer, artistic director of the ECHI Festival 

Decisions made by the Jury will be final. The Jury may reserve the right not to select any composition in case none of the works meets the quality requirements of the jury or doesn’t follow the guidelines of the call.

RESULTS
Results will be announced via email by September 15th, 2022.
