Bernhard Gander

Born in Lienz in 1969, he studied at the Tyrolean Provincial Conservatoire (piano, musical composition, conducting) and composition with Beat Furrer in Graz. He also studied electro acoustic music at Studio UPIC in Paris and at the Swiss Centre for Computer Music in Zurich. Among the awards he has received, the most relevant are the Young Composers Grant of the City of Vienna, 2004; the Erste Bank Composition Prize in 2005; the Austrian federal grants for musical composition 2005/2007; the SKE Publicity Prize 2009 and the Ernst Krenek Prize in 2012 for “melting pot”. He has collaborated with Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Intégrales, Talea Ensemble, Arditti Quartett, Ensemble Phace, and Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, among others. His works have been performed by RSO Wien, DSO Berlin, Brüsseler Philharmoniker, SWR Sinfonieorchester, WDR Sinfonieorchester, hr-Sinfonieorchester, Tiroler Symphonieorchester, NÖ Tonkünstlerorchester, Haydnorchester Bozen, and at the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Steirischer Herbst, ORF, Biennale Venezia, Klangspuren Schwaz, Transart Bozen, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Wiener Festwochen, Wien modern, Musica Strassbourg, Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik, Biennale München.
